This may seem like strange advice to hear from your wedding photographers but hear us out! The honeymoon tradition has been around hundreds of years as a way for the couple to ease into and celebrate their marriage. Today many couples first live together before marrying but that hasn’t rendered the honeymoon unnecessary!
We know how long you’ve been planning your wedding, how you have agonized over decisions such as picking the date, the venue, the dress, theme, colors, cake, flowers, and all the other choices along the way. Your wedding day will be one of the happiest days of your life! But, to be honest, you will not be alone if it also ends up being somewhat exhausting and a bit stressful. This is perfectly natural! With so many moving parts and the inherent importance of the day, it is bound to happen! We will leave the survival tips for another discussion because we want to focus here on the importance of the honeymoon.
The honeymoon is a fantastic opportunity to decompress after the wedding. It is still a tremendous way for the two of you to celebrate your marriage without the pressure of guests. This is the perfect time to unwind, share, connect, revel in being united, and solidify the team before heading back to the daily work or school schedules.
We know not everyone can take a lot of time off work or spend much on the honeymoon. If that is the case for you, remember that we live in one of the top vacation spots in the world! As locals, we sometimes forget that we too can be a tourist in Alaska! If Hawaii or a more exotic destination isn’t in the budget, look closer to home for your getaway. Consider being pampered at a downtown Anchorage hotel or making the short drive to Seward, Talkeetna, or Alyeska to play tourist. Have a weekend and some airline miles to use? How about a weekend in Seattle or San Francisco? Like to camp? Rent an RV and hit the open road.
No matter what fits into your budget, making time for a honeymoon to celebrate your marriage is an investment worth making!
Happy planning!
